Hong Kong, Mid Centre Runway project (3913) of Hong Kong International Airport

Type of project: Supply of PEN bitumen and polymer modified bitumen
Construction period: March 2023 – December 2024
Location: Hong Kong (Chek Lap Kok), HKIA Airport Site
Quantity: 10.200 ton of 60/70 PEN Grade Bitumen and 11.500 ton Sealoflex SFB 5-20 (JR).

After the successful completion of Contract 3303 – Third Runway and Associated Works for Hong Kong International Airport, Ooms PMB was awarded with a contract for supplying PEN bitumen and polymer modified bitumen to Contract 3913 – Asphalt Batching Facility Licence Agreement by SPR JV, a joint venture between Sinohydro, Power China, and Rock One Engineering, whose client is the Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK). Ooms PMB is proud to see that after the new northern runway, the centre runway will be constructed in its entirety with Sealoflex SFB5-20 (JR) polymer modified bitumen.

SFB5-20 (JR), jet fuel resistant, is a polymer modified bitumen specifically designed for places where increased resistance to fuels and oils is required. Airport runways, taxiways, and aprons are examples where Sealoflex offers clear benefits over other materials. The SFB5-20 is a PG76 grade, necessary at Hong Kong International Airport due to the local climate combined with the heavy weight load of the many landings at the runways. Sealoflex’s technical specifications meets all the requirements of AAHK.

Ooms PMB awarded the supply of PEN bitumen 60/70 to the local supplier Hong Kong Wah Development Ltd. In order to supply Sealoflex in time and as per the demand planning of the joint venture, it was decided to keep an Ooms mobile PMB plant at the project site, adjacent to the asphalt batching plants of Contract 3913. The mobile Sealoflex PMB plant is able to produce up to 200 MT a day.
