The asphalt on the handball field in Nibbixwoud had subsided to such an extent that playing handball was no longer possible. The Municipality of Medemblik in the Netherlands has asked Ooms to bring back the flatness and the blue color.
To determine the most suitable blue asphalt mix, several research has been carried out in the central lab of Ooms. Several mixtures were designed on the basis of Sealoflex Bright (the most white/bright binder Ooms has in-house). The desired bright color blue was achieved by adding white and blue pigment pellets in a certain proportion to the Sealoflex® Bright.
This asphalt mixture is applied three centimeters thick and maintains the contrast-rich blue color until the end of its life. The playing field lasts much longer because the blue asphalt is very durable. The asphalt creates a completely smooth surface that benefits the game. Because of the contrast with the bright blue of the field, the ball is much more visible for players and the public.
