High performance cost effective solutions for roads
The Sports Boulevard is one of Riyadh’s mega projects, aimed to make Riyadh one of the most livable cities in the world, encouraging residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle through participation in various sports, such as walking, cycling and horse riding.
The Sports Boulevard extends through the city of Riyadh, connecting Wadi Hanifa in the West to Wadi Al-Sulai in the East, with more than 135 km to become the largest linear park in the world.
In cooperation with the client Sports Boulevard Foundation and the contractor Najd Roads, multiple coloured asphalt pavements were developed. Ooms PMB was the supplier of the synthetic pigmentable clear binder and the coloured pigment pellets for the projects. Based on the technical requirements for the asphalt surface layer, Ooms PMB proposed its synthetic clear binder Sealoflex® Color PG76 as the appropriate binder to withstand the tough climatic conditions in the Middle East. For the coloured asphalt local limestone aggregate material was used.
In close cooperation with the client, contractor Najd Roads and consultant, a suitable mix design was developed. The Sealoflex Color® PG76 was manufactured in Ooms’ production facility in the Netherlands and shipped, together with the ColorFalt pigment pellets, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
